LIFE Behind the Lens

PHOTOJOURNALISM, FASHION, STREET, PORTRAITS, ADVERTISING

1950 - 1970

John Sadovy is an acclaimed photographer whose lens captured some of the most iconic moments in photojournalism, as exemplified by his photographs in Budapest during the 1956 Hungarian uprising. For these he won the prestigious Robert Capa award. He retained the elements of realism and immediacy from his photo-documentary work in his fashion and portrait images, and later when he moved into advertising. This naturalistic approach, new at the time, brought him further recognition and success.
